Migrating starlings put on dazzling show in southern Israel

KIRYAT GAT, Israel (Reuters) – Until eventually 20 many years back, starlings from Japanese Europe migrated to Israel for winter season in their millions, but their quantities have dropped to flocks of amongst tens of hundreds to a handful of hundred thousand.

Scientists have not however identified the explanation for the drop though the birds even now place on a dazzling clearly show in the Holy Land – twisting and turning at significant speed, making spectacular, sweeping designs in the southern Israeli sky.

By grouping with each other, the starlings not only locate security in numbers but their changing movements and shifting collective form confuse their would-be attackers.
