Suntory to sell super-expensive, 55-year Yamazaki whisky

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s Suntory Holdings on Thursday unveiled a restricted edition 55-12 months-previous Yamazaki single malt whisky, which it will promote for 3 million yen ($27,347.31) a bottle, aiming to bolster its credentials as a high quality whisky maker.

Only 100 bottles will be marketed from June 30, and consumers will be preferred by lottery, the enterprise stated.

Suntory and other quality whisky makers have been confronted with depleted shares of aged whiskies right after an unexpected surge in recognition of one malts in the previous decade. Numerous have turned to blends without age statements to take care of provide.

The firm, for instance, ended sales of its common 17-year Hibiki, which appeared in the film “Lost in Translation”, in 2018.
